doi: 10.4121/c83bfba0-6eb4-48f7-87e5-01915b908988
The data file includes the material experiments of the tube-guided SMA actuator and the SMA hinge actuator. All experiments were used for developing phenomenological models which can predict actuators' performance. (1) Tube-guided SMA actuator: material characterization experiments were conducted with two types of materials, including a shape memory alloy wire and a PTFE tube. For the SMA, transformation stress tests, Young’s modulus test, transformation temperatures test and force-control tests were performed. For the tube, thermal expansion tests, Young’s modulus test, and some experiments about creep were performed. A Dynamic Mechanical Analyser (DMA) Q800® of TA instruments was used for all tests. (2) SMA hinge actuator: two different types of SMA materials were tested, to figure out their torsion performance in different temperatures. Transformation temperature tests, shear Stress-strain tests, etc. were included. A DMA machine and a Differential Scanning Calorimetry Q2000® were used for tests.
