***Description of the content***
The data provided in these files have been generated/collected during the study of bioanode response to intermittent anode potentials. These data are made public to share the raw data with other researchers and to serve as supplementary information.
All the experiments were performed at Wetsus, European Center of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, between February 2020 and February 2021.
This work was supported by the “Resource Recovery” theme of Wetsus and the Dutch Research Council (NWO) [project “Understanding and controlling electron flows in electro-active biofilms” with project number 17516 that is part of the research programme Vidi].

***Description of the data in this data set***
Data have been merged in seperate excel files to group all the raw data gathered for each of the tested conditions. Each excel file contains the analysis performed to the biofilms and the current data recorded with the IVIUM.
The zip files are labelled as follow:
File: cont.xlsm - data set of the experiments performed at continuous anode potential;
File: 5s.xlsm - data set of the experiments performed at 5 s intermittent anode potential;
File: 20s.xlsm - data set of the experiments performed at 20 s intermittent anode potential;
File: 60s.xlsm - data set of the experiments performed at 60 s intermittent anode potential;
File: 300s.xlsm - data set of the experiments performed at 300 s intermittent anode potential;

In each of the excel files, all the IVIUM data for each of the replicates are provided in separate sheets. In the first sheet of each ezcel file, measured parameters to characterize the biofilm are included (all the replicates performed for each condition are included in the excel file of each condition).

The IVIUM sheets are distinguished with the name of the condition followed by the number of the replicate (example, "ivium.300.2.csv" is the second replicate of the experiments performed at 300 s intermittent anode potential).
The parameters in the IVIUM excel files are listed and described below:

Parameter: time (s) -> time of the ivium scan (in seconds);
Parameter: i (A) -> measured current (in Amperes);
Parameter: potential (V) -> anode potential (in V vs Ag/AgCl);
Parameter: Q (C) -> estimated charge (in Coulombs);

All the IVIUM scans performed in a reactor are included in the IVIUM data of the corresponding experiment.

In the excel file with the measured parameters to characterize the biofilm, the replicates of each experiment are distinguished with the name of the condition followed by the number of the replicate (example, "300.2.csv" is the second replicate of the experiments performed at 300 s intermittent anode potential).
The parameters in the excel files are listed and described below:

Parameter: Time (d) -> operating time of the reactors;
Parameter: j (A/m2) -> average current;
Parameter: Ac (Eff) (mM) -> acetate concentration in the effluent;
Parameter: Biofilm - Biomass (mg COD) -> amount of biofilm on the anode;
Parameter: Planktonic -	Dead (cell/mL) and Live (cell/mL) -> amount of dead and live cells in the anolyte;
Parameter: EPS composition - Glucose (S-EPS (mg), LB-EPS (mg), TB-EPS (mg)) and	BSA (S-EPS (µg), LB-EPS (µg), TB-EPS (µg)) -> amount of polysaccharides and proteins measured in the three fractions of the EPS	(soluble, S, Loosely bound, LB, and Tighly bound, TB);
Parameter: Elemental biomass composition (N (%), C (%),	H (%), S (%), O (%)) -> percentage of each element in the dry cells of the biofilms;

The description of the methodolody and calculation can be found in the manuscript. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bioflm.2021.100064
Averages and standard deviations of the duplicates were only calculated after using the raw data to calculate the parameters presented in the manuscript.
