Actaea cimicifuga L.is an important medicinal plant in China. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of A. cimicifuga was characterized and assembled. The complete chloroplast genome is 159,761bp in length and presented a typical tetrad structure, with one small copy and one large single copy (SSC and LSC) regions of 17,838bp and 88,805bp isolated by two 26,559bp reverse repeat regions (IRs).A total of 129 unique genes were annotated in this study, including 84 protein encoding genes, 8 rRNA and 37 tRNA. Altogether 14 genes that contained introns are located within that chloroplast genome for A. cimicifuga. Typically, 2 of these genes (ycf3 and clpP) contained two introns, while the other ones had only one intron. Based on the maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree of 20 complete chloroplast genomes, A. cimicifuga shows close association with additional Actaea genus. The chloroplast genome of A. cimicifuga is helpful to understand its genetic information.
