Dataset
The dataset intends to support the publication "Experimental study of transonic flow over a wind turbine airfoil" by Aditya, Vitulano, De Tavernier, Schrijer, van Oudheusden, von Terzi in Wind Energy Science. The data includes planar PIV measurements done for a model of the FFA-W3-211 airfoil, most commonly used in reference wind turbine tips, for different inclinations at high subsonic freestream Mach numbers (0.5 - 0.6) with total pressure of 2.0 bar and total temperature of approximately 288 K. The measurements were carried out in the Transonic-Supersonic wind tunnel (TST-27) at the High-Speed Lab of Delft University of Technology. The raw images were recorded with a pair of LaVision Imager sCMOS cameras with overlapping fields-of-view, each operating at a full spatial resolution of 2560 x 2160 pixels and recording at an acquisition rate of 15 Hz to match the repetition rate of the Nd:YAG laser (532 nm) used to illuminate the DEHS seeder particles in the flow. A Lavision Programmable Timing Unit (PTU) was employed to synchronize the laser and the cameras. The acquired raw images were processed using LaVision DaVis to obtain streamwise and transverse velocity fields at a spatial resolution of 0.164 mm, or around 0.24% of the model chord. Subsequently, the velocity fields for both cameras were combined using a linear ramp in the overlap region to provide a full field-of-view spanning 142 x 82 % of the model chord in the streamwise and transverse directions, respectively. In total, 1200 snapshots were recorded for each case. The current dataset contains the processed, combined (full-field) velocity fields (.mat) along with a (post)processing code (.m) to calculate the local Mach number fields, shock locations, etc. from the velocity fields.
