Dataset

The experiments aimed to measure local conditions in methane producing biocathodes. The cathodes consisted of 3D porous granular activated carbon (GAC) material. The performance of the reactor (methane production) was measured over time and compared to microsensor experiments to measure hydrogen, pH, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and electric potential inside the porous electrodes. The microsensor experiments were performed in steps of 800 micrometer at three different locations in the biocathode, measuring from the outer side of the reactor which contained the current collector towards the membrane separating the biocathode from the anode. This study shows local hydrogen presence under biotic conditions despite its absence in bulk measurements, indicating microbial hydrogen consumption. This dataset contains the data obtained for the reactor performance measurements and the microsensor measurements.
