Dataset

This dataset contains the research data underlying the publication "Polygon-Informed Cross-Track Altimetry (PICTA): Estimating river water level profiles with the Sentinel-6 altimeter". The preprint of this publication is available at SSRN: http://dx.doi.org.tudelft.idm.oclc.org/10.2139/ssrn.4851452

Contents

The dataset contains altimetry data of the Sentinel-6 mission over small parts of the Garonne and Creuse rivers in France in two processing stages:

  1. the FFSAR-processed altimetry signal, derived from EUMETSAT Level-1a altimetry data (http://doi.org/10.15770/EUM_SEC_CLM_0093) via the processor described in Ehlers et al. 2022 (http://doi.org/10.1016/j.asr.2022.11.034). The data in the form of netcdf files is contained in the zip-archives
  2. Garonne_FFSAR_altimetry_data.zip
  3. Creuse_FFSAR_altimetry_data.zip
  4. the PICTA-processed river water level profiles, derived from the FFSAR-processed altimetry data and the geophysical corrections contained in EUMETSAT Level-2 altimetry data (http://doi.org/10.15770/EUM_SEC_CLM_0096), see source publication for details. The data in the form of netcdf files is contained in the zip-archives
  5. Garonne_river_profile_data.zip
  6. Creuse_river_profile_data.zip

For both processing levels, the archives contain netCDF files with the data of single satellite overpasses (as in the original EUMETSAT datasets). For convenience, both the FFSAR-processed and the PICTA-derived data that belong to a specific overpass carry the original file identifier of the underlying Level-1a altimetry data (http://doi.org/10.15770/EUM_SEC_CLM_0093) plus the extension "_TUDelft".
