Dataset

This spectral reference library collection, MADLib, contains 24,889 curated hyperspectral reflectance measurements from 3,032 samples of marine debris—both plastic and non-plastic—compiled from 13 datasets. The objective is to support the development of robust remote sensing algorithms for detecting marine debris by providing standardized, comprehensive data. This applied research compiles reflectance data collected through hyperspectral imaging under controlled conditions, including indoor and outdoor measurement environments. Spectra were harmonized and paired with standardized metadata that capture key characteristics such as polymer type, color, size, weathering, aqueous state, and experimental design. MADLib addresses prior inconsistencies in data curation and enhances accessibility for future algorithm development.
