This dataset underlies the dissertation of Michiel Hooykaas: "Species Literacy: The perception and cultural portrayal of animals". This thesis covers research on people’s knowledge about animal species, the way in which animals are represented in cultural products aimed at children, and ways to expand the role of biodiversity in laypeople’s lives. The research involved both quantitative methods (e.g. knowledge tests and content analyses) and qualitative methods (interviews).
