Collection Overamstel Experiments: Data underlying the dissertation: "Amsterdam quays under pressure - Modelling and testing of historic canal walls"
doi: 10.4121/d2d001b5-ec3f-4518-a90c-8461c1ff9ff3
The collection has been compiled as part of the dissertation of M.J. Hemel (2023) entitled "Amsterdam quays under pressure - Modelling and testing of historic canal walls".
To expand the understanding of relevant parameters and failure mechanisms, as well as to refine computational models of quay walls, a comprehensive full-scale proof load experimental program was planned and executed during the first half of 2022. The experimental program took place on a timber founded quay wall located at a small inlet harbour at Amsterdam Overamstel which dates back from 1905.
To avoid mixing of uncertainties from varies sources three types of experiments are performed. These were:
- Four-point bending tests on timber piles,
- Lateral pile group experiments
- Proof load experiments on quay wall segments
The three experiments each have their own data set and doi.
This is the overarching collection of the Overamstel Experiments, linking the three experiments.
